Applications

Soft Touch packaging

A premium package has to feel different in the hand and still run on a standard laminating line.

Soft Touch Matte and Ultra-Soft Touch Matte films, laminated over the print.

The most common base is 48 gauge PET film (12 micron). The film can be wet laminated onto existing print or reverse printed before lamination, within a set range of coefficient of friction and haze. FlexPack coats and slits Soft Touch Matte at its St. Charles, Illinois, plant, a site of more than 47,000 square feet that is SQF certified for food packaging.

Materials: Rayven Soft Touch Matte and Ultra-Soft Touch Matte; Questar Soft Touch CP267 and CP367

Food and pet food packaging

Food packaging needs barrier, seal, and print surfaces that hold from the filling line to the shelf.

Coated Questar PET films with the barrier and treatment the structure calls for.

Filmquest's CP series runs 36 to 142 gauge for packaging that needs higher oxygen and water barrier. Options include one or two side corona treatment, chemical treatment, PVdC coating, Soft Touch Matte coating, lidding stock, metalizing, and AlOx. Uses include bread and pasta bags, snack and nutrition bars, pet food, and boil-in bag packaging. Rayven's Owatonna plant is SQF certified for the manufacture of food packaging films and substrates.

Imaging, electrical, and industrial films

Graphics, electrical, and industrial uses need PET in an exact gauge and width, slit to a tight tolerance.

Questar PET film from 25 to 1400 gauge, slit to width, cut to sheets, or fabricated into components.

Filmquest slits rolls up to 88 inches wide and down to 3/4 inch, to a standard tolerance of plus or minus 1/16 inch, on 3 inch or 6 inch cores. Metalized grades run from fully opaque to a low level tint.
